1. Bird by Bird
A couple of my book club buddies and I are taking a personal essay class, and this book was recommended by the instructor. I loved it. The author is honest, funny and gives good advice - several of which I have already started to use.
2. Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World's Greatest Trip
Absolutely delightful. I have already taken several of these trips, and so many more to go. Wonderfully inspirational - got the travel itch!

I LOVE Bird by Bird too. Read it a long time ago but I remember the story..."just take it bird by bird buddy." I've read several books by Annie Lamott and like her stories. I actually like her stuff about religion too. Don't see it from the same vantage but I like her writing on that front.
Have you read Natalie Goldberg? She wrote _Writing Down the Bones_ which I really like too. Good writing exercises. She feels similar to AL too...writes a lot about Buddhism with AL's similar bent to Christianity.
